Reflections on TDB

Gentle reminders…

About reading challenges in general

We are so excited to return to monthly prompts, and related to that, are re-sharing this reel that posted back in 2023, when her and Margherita first began the challenge.

About approaching annual reading wrap ups & the judgments we place on others

As we enter the last month of 2025 and this year’s challenge, we want to also share this reminder about the cyclical discourse of judging how much other people read:

About the final month of The Diverse Baseline 2025

There is no December prompt - you may choose whichever prompt you like from the list of 2025 prompts.

The 2025 list was NOT meant to be a comprehensive list of every single identity and genre out there. This was meant to guide us to reflect upon the baseline of our reading habits. The countries are listed out under the respective prompts in the 2025 Storygraph challenge.

Review Spotlight

Thanks for sharing your reviews each month!

Use #TheDiverseBaseline when posting your reviews, and/or tagging us (only if you want to/feel comfortable doing so), so we can find & spotlight them here.

Moments with the Discord Mods

Though this readathon is meant for November, we still encourage you to read Indigenous authors all year long, and think this BINGO card is a fun way to track!

Community care & reiterating that reading is political

We acknowledge that reading, like every other aspect of life, is political, and we believe in the power of community care and collectivism.

If you do not have disposable income for specific mutual aid initiatives, you can still support these folks by re-posting, liking, or boosting the content by commenting indeed does so much!

We also encourage you to seek out ways to get connected to local-to-you community initiatives, as we recognize there are likely already many initiatives around you that would greatly appreciate your support and awareness.

We found this post incredibly helpful - thank you to one of our Discord members & fellow bookstagrammers, Christine for sharing it in the server.

The arrest of Chinese authors of queer stories (danmei and baihe)

Chinese authors are being arrested for writing gay novels on Haitang (a web novel platform belonging to a Taiwanese publisher), with the excuse of “combating online obscenity and pornography”.

We have recommendation lists on libro.fm and bookshop.org. If you would like highly recommended books from us, check out our links and support local/indie bookstores in the process (if it’s an accessible option for you).

Libro.fm’s Shop Small Sale runs from November 25th through December 1st! Customers can stock up on audiobooks for themselves or shop for gifts in this sale featuring plenty of bestsellers and Bookseller Picks for $5.99 USD or less.

Affiliates earn 15% on individual audiobook sales made through their links, and support local bookshops. All of our Libro FM playlists are linked below, and we’d greatly appreciate you buying through us to support our emotional labor in organizing this challenge <3
